Reasons for the Seasons

Many people think that the Earth's seasons are caused by how close the planet is to the Sun. They do not realize that Earth is always the same distance from the Sun. Seasons are really based upon the Earth's axis and its revolution and rotation around the sun. If the planet were at angle greater than 23.5 degrees only certain parts would receive sunlight. As we revolve around the sun only specific hemispheres get more direct sunlight causing seasons. The period of time the sun is shining also plays a roll in seasons. Summer days are much longer than winter which allows to Sun to heat the Earth for a longer period of time. Seasons are a common misconception among people beacuse these realizations can often be hard to grasp.
